Charles L. Thompson collection, 1699-1949.

Personal correspondence, research notes, and papers collected or prepared by Charles S. Thompson reflect his interest in Louisiana history and the history of New Orleans. Copies of manuscripts from the colonial, territorial, and early statehood periods of Louisiana are included along with some original manuscript items. Notes and memoranda by Thompson comment on published histories and guide books of Louisiana and New Orleans. Maps and plans depict ante-bellum New Orleans and surrounding areas. Photographs and illustrations depict actors and other famous figures, buildings and monuments, and steamboats and wharves in New Orleans. Biographical and historical writings discuss people, places, and organizations of New Orleans. The collection contains newspaper clippings and a collection of watermarks.
